About the Role
A leading organisation in the defence and space sector is seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Manager to join its UK Space Digital (SD) team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the preparation, negotiation, and management of commercial commitments across the full project lifecycle-from acquisition to contract closure. You will play a key role in delivering mission-critical services that support our customers' need for "Information Superiority."
As part of a collaborative and empowered Commercial and Contracts team, you will shape commercial strategies, manage risk, and ensure compliance while fostering strong customer relationships and driving best-in-class standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial activities for complex bids, applying innovation and creativity.
- Manage contracts of varying sizes, including those worth hundreds of millions.
- Support contract changes and lead negotiations for a variety of agreements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver profitable, risk-mitigated solutions.
- Advise procurement on contractual obligations and ensure appropriate flow-down of terms.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure contract success.
- Provide flexible commercial support across the business.
- Promote and implement commercial best practices in an ethical and efficient manner.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a commercial role, ideally within the defence or aerospace sector.
- Strong background in customer-facing roles and competitive bid environments.
- Demonstrated negotiation and contract management expertise.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Understanding of project management, risk, and financial principles.
- High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Eligible for or currently holding Security Clearance (SC level).
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with the UK MOD and knowledge of Single Source Regulations.
- Familiarity with the Defence Reform Act and MOD contracting processes.
- Cross-functional collaboration with finance, engineering, and sales teams.
- Track record of preparing and delivering successful proposals.
- Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in a related field.
