Belcan Workforce Solutions are currently looking for a Whole Vehicle Test (Principal Engineer) to work with our Commercial Vehicle client based in Warwickshire.

Management/Principal Whole Vehicle Test role with experience of new product development within an EV automotive environment to meet worldwide market requirements.

The candidate should have excellent Technical and Leadership capabilities, which can be applied in a dynamic and challenging engineering environment.

Accountabilities & Activities

  • Durability and Robustness Attribute Owner
  • Lead and manage Whole Vehicle Testing for all vehicle lines
  • Collate and understand component, system and vehicle level test requirements
  • Work closely with the Vehicle Engineering team to develop test plans
  • Identify and execute efficiencies in test plans
  • Lead creation of Whole Vehicle Test requirements and maintenance of standards
  • Participate in benchmarking of company and competitor vehicles to support competitiveness of vehicle durability and attribute levels
  • Assess vehicles throughout development, including Virtual Series and physical testing to ensure durability and robustness attribute is on target
  • Develop Engineering robustness, target achievement and evaluation activities
  • Work with Engineering and Quality teams to provide the technical voice for customer expectations regarding durability and robustness
  • Reference Quality History Reviews and Design Failure Modes & Effects Analyses in new design system design
  • Support Gateways and Technical Checkpoints using virtual and physical analysis to evaluate vehicle Durability and Robustness performance and ensure target achievement through to production
  • Work with the Prototype Build and Workshop team to ensure that vehicles are appropriately prepared for testing, including necessary instrumentation, and maintained to a safe standard
  • Lead and manage tear down activities as part of testing, such as post-corrosion or durability testing
  • Coordinate and maintain spares and consumables requirements for Whole Vehicle Testing
  • Support bucks and rigs where appropriate (directly linked to Whole Vehicle Testing)
  • Responsible for sign-off of reports out from the Whole Vehicle Test team
  • Leadership to be provided to a team of Test Engineers ensuring management of the department workload
  • Cascading objectives and carrying out periodic performance evaluations
  • High level of technical competence should be displayed in this role, including the ability to take engineering data and present a high-level summary to the senior leadership team.

Essential Requirements:

Degree level education in an engineering field.

  • Automotive
  • Mechanical
  • Electrical.

Experience in whole vehicle, rigs, bucks and system level testing management, test procedure development and reporting.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Vehicle testing experience in automotive or commercial vehicle industry.
  • Vehicle electrification experience and understanding of impact on vehicle Testing.
  • Possess a customer focused mindset.
  • Self-starter with high levels of resilience to lead root cause analysis.
  • Provide balanced solutions for clear decision making.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with all engineering functions and levels of the business.
  • Proficiency in generating and presenting technical material in a concise manner to suit the audience.
  • Ability to work with non-direct reports.
  • Ability to work in a start-up environment.
