Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Controls

Location: Desford, Leicestershire - Full Time On Site

Full Time: 37.5 hours per week


Belcan are currently working with a leading global manufacturing client, to support them with their search for proactive Manufacturing Engineers. They are looking for Engineers who can run large scale manufacturing improvement projects, utilising the latest in manufacturing technologies.

You will be part of a highly focused team of Engineers and Technicians within the Manufacturing Engineering department whose work leads the implementation of the latest manufacturing technologies and introducing the latest machines. With multimillion valuing projects you will lead and work cross-functionally within their organisation to ensure the smooth introduction of our world class products.

What You Will Do:

As Manufacturing Engineer - Controls, your accountabilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify opportunities for automation and robotics and bring to implementation.
  • Affectively use Siemens PLC/HMI software to aid maintenance teams to diagnoses production issues.
  • Affectively use Siemens/ Mitsubishi PLC software to uplift and standardise legacy system assets.
  • Project management - Full scope, development, budgets, resources and management of NPI or Improvement projects (Technology/Efficiency/Quality) from initiation to production and program completion.
  • Facilitate the development of manufacturing process solutions work with functional teams, using a range of tool e.g. process flows, PFMEA's, control plans. Promote lean and quality as a focus within the business.
  • Monitor and report on project health, including issue management to ensure People, Quality, Velocity and Cost targets are achieved.
  • Developing equipment specifications and installation requirements and ensuring that the equipment is safe and meets the needs of manufacturing.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
  • Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, budgets and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project targets.
  • Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
  • Problem Management Process - MFG: Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution

Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, fundamentals and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Good understanding of building and construction equipment Assembly, Test or Finish processes and production
  • Working knowledge of Siemens Teamcenter would be advantageous.
  • Experience of leading quality concern resolution with tools such as 8D, 5why, fishbone diagrams and other appropriate quality tools
  • 6 Sigma project leadership experience.
