Belcan Workforce Solutions are currently looking for a Commissioning Manager for a Defence establishment in Reading. The post is for an estimated 12 month contract and is paying competitively on an hourly basis.

Successful applicants will be required to be Security Cleared prior to appointment and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain UK Security Clearance. Candidates should be willing and able to work in designated areas where the need arises.

The position has been deemed Outside of IR35.


To manage and organise an individual or suite of projects in support of the company's strategic goals; provide due governance and management to meet the Nuclear Licence Conditions, QMS and Project Delivery processes and procedures. Management of projects and activities to meet the quality, cost, resource, programme and acceptance criteria.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver the commissioning requirements of the project from design to end of inactive commissioning within defined budgetary constraints safely, within quality, time and performance constraints.
  • Ensure that the commissioning of Safety Systems is fully signed off prior to Safety Systems being put into service with the required verification evidence to demonstrate adherence.
  • Responsible for the mentoring, development, reporting and conduct of Commissioning staff in their reporting chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide management and governance to maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality across all areas of engineering with specific specialist knowledge within Commissioning and the nuclear environment.
  • Responsible for the professional development, performance and ethical standards of the staff within their responsibility and reporting chain.
  • Ensure the standards, procedures and work instructions underpinning commissioning are followed.
  • Ensure commissioning teams are appropriately organised and that key personnel are demonstrably competent to undertake their roles.
  • Ensure that commissioning activities follow the appropriate Project Delivery Map.
  • Ensure commissioning records are maintained to support project handover.

Essential Qualifications: ONC / HNC or equal and equivalent in discipline.

Key requirements and essential skills for the role: Demonstrable evidence of having held a commissioning management role in the UK nuclear engineering and construction industry defence or civil

T&S for France will be reimbursed (normally hotel / serviced apartment, travel to and from flights or Eurostar and hire car)

Can part time or flexible working options could be considered for this role: Flexible example early documentation written and approved in UK & 80% of work in France.
