Building Services Engineer
Location: Portsmouth OR Stevenage
Pay Rate: £40/ph Umbrella
Type: Contract - 12 months

Are you an experienced Building Services Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? Our client is seeking a highly skilled professional to oversee, inspect and assure the quality of building services installations across multiple key sites.

In this role, you'll act as the eyes and ears of the Technical Services department conducting detailed inspections, identifying defects, reviewing compliance and ensuring work meets exacting design specifications. You'll work closely with construction teams, contractors, designers and project managers to guarantee that each installation is completed to the highest possible standard.

As a Building Services Engineer, you will:

  • Conduct regular site inspections covering mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire systems and structural works.
  • Ensure all installations align with drawings, specifications and statutory regulations.
  • Identify any non‑conformances and document them clearly.
  • Track issues through to full resolution, working collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Maintain detailed site documentation, including progress reports and photographic evidence.
  • Verify the quality and suitability of materials used on site.
  • Attend technical and progress meetings, providing informed insights and updates.
  • Ensure all handover documentation - including O&M manuals and commissioning records - is fully accurate and complete.

Requirements (Essential):

  • Qualification in Building Services Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction or related field (HNC/HND/Degree/City & Guilds).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical and building services systems.
  • Proven experience as a Building Services Engineer, Clerk of Works, Site Inspector or similar.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
  • Competent with relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, Google OS).
  • Full UK driving licence for site travel
