Belcan Workforce Solutions are seeking a Software Systems Engineer on a 12 month contract to join our client's Defence & Space team in Portsmouth.

The client is offering up to £65.00 per hour Umbrella, the role is Inside of IR35. This is hybrid opportunity with 3 days required on-site per week.

Overview of the role:

Are you a Systems Engineer with a passion for cutting-edge technology and mission-critical systems? Join our dynamic team supporting the development of the Projects Management System-a pivotal project in the defence communications sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop system designs based on customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with the System Design Authority and Product Owner to build and maintain the product backlog.
  • Capture software architecture using UML modelling.
  • Define and document interactions between software components.
  • Produce Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Requirements Documents (IRDs).
  • Conduct peer reviews and provide technical support to the development team.
  • Ensure the system model is well understood and accurately implemented.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of Satellite Communications (SatCom).
  • Experience working on defence-related projects.
  • Proficiency in UML / SysML modelling.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • High standard of documentation and stakeholder interaction.

Desirable Skills:

  • Background in Radio Planning.
  • Experience in Agile development environments.
  • Knowledge or hands-on experience in software development.
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field (minimum 2:1 preferred).
  • Familiarity with:
    • Software Defined Networking (SDN)
    • Network Monitoring / Management Applications
