Pensions Operations Manager

Location: Filton (60% onsite)
Contract:
6‑month contract, strong possibility of extension
Hours: 35 hours per week (4.5 days, between 7am-7pm)
Clearance:
BPSS+ (completed by the Client's Security Team)
Rate:
£37.00/hr Umbrella | £27.66/hr PAYE
IR35:
Inside (off‑payroll rules apply)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Pensions Operations Manager to support their in‑house pensions function and partner closely with the UK Group Schemes & Benefits team.

This position oversees end‑to‑end operational pension activities, ensures compliance, and plays a key role in driving process improvements and supporting strategic communication across the organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong pensions administration expertise, experience leading teams, and the confidence to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations relating to retirement cases, medical‑ground retirements, death benefits, income protection claims, invoicing, and communication campaigns.
  • Manage relationships with third‑party pension administrators.
  • Continuously review and improve processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and delivery.
  • Lead regular team meetings to encourage collaboration and information sharing.
  • Prepare reports and management information (MI) for stakeholders.
  • Allocate and plan team resources to meet operational targets.
  • Ensure all operations comply with relevant regulatory and company requirements.
  • Support legislative or policy‑driven process changes.
  • Work closely with pensions project teams on multiple in‑flight projects.
  • Assist with member queries, financial scheme audits, and internal promotions of pensions‑related initiatives.

Experience & Skills Required

  • 5+ years' experience in pensions administration, ideally in a large organisation or pensions provider.
  • Previous experience leading or supporting a pensions administration team.
  • Strong organisational, planning, and multi‑tasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence in engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to independently own and deliver projects.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and support team development.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite is advantageous.
  • Experience integrating pension plans within a business or working with providers such as Mercer or Capita is highly desirable
