Mechanical Engineer

Due to increased growth, Belcan are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Test Systems engineering team based in Cheltenham. They would be dealing with the whole life cycle of projects, from concept design, to manufacture and delivery of bespoke testing equipment. They will work closely with the internal Manufacturing and Procurement teams on a variety of Client's projects as well as the Client themselves.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of design assigned to them, i.e., initial concept(s), detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, specification(s), installation support and vendor liaison. The role has a strong focus on engineering delivery and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Review and implementation of customer specifications
  • Support generation of concept designs from customer specifications through to development of designs to manufacture
  • Produce 3D models and assemblies
  • Produce piece part drawings, assembly drawings including associated Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Produce and peer review designs within the mechanical group
  • Contribute towards technical bid evaluations and proposals
  • Contribute to a range of different projects, from packaging of electro-mechanical systems to low complexity pneumatic and hydraulic test equipment
  • Prepare and deliver clear, effective technical information to stakeholders
  • Support configuration control of data within the business
  • Adherence to internal quality processes
  • Support Customer site visits including installation support where required

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or similar (mechanically biased) or equivalent experience
  • Experience of 3D CAD modelling - SolidWorks preferred
  • Self-manage to cost and delivery of projects
  • Experience of communicating concisely with customer both verbally and in written format
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office

Desirable:

  • Experience of test equipment
  • Experience of FMEA
  • Experience of CE marking, Safety of Machinery, HSE regulations, IEC standards and EMC
  • Understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes including DFM
