Role Overview
An established engineering organisation within the aerospace and energy sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in Gas Turbine Test Rigs to join its team in Derby.
This role offers the opportunity to work on advanced turbomachinery projects, supporting the full design lifecycle from initial concept through to production. The position is suited to candidates who can operate with a high level of autonomy and contribute both technically and through team support.
Key Responsibilities - Mechanical Design Engineer
Design, update, and maintain turbomachinery and test rig components
Lead and support the full design lifecycle (concept through to production)
Manage multiple complex engineering projects simultaneously
Ensure designs meet technical, manufacturing, and customer requirements
Deliver projects on time and within budget
Participate in design reviews and technical presentations (internal & client-facing)
Work closely with customers to define requirements and resolve technical queries
Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
Take ownership of low-to-medium complexity programmes
Requirements - Mechanical Design Engineer
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
6+ years' experience in turbomachinery or gas turbine design
Proven experience working on gas turbine test rigs
Strong CAD capability (NX preferred)
Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience presenting technical information to stakeholders and clients
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and customers
