IT Technician

Newport, South Wales

Full-time, 35 hours per week. 9am and 5pm with half day on Fridays

5-month contract - £300 per day Inside IR35

Belcan Workforce Solutions are thrilled to announce a new opportunity for an enthusiastic IT Technician, with one of our Space & Defence partners, the largest Aerospace manufacturer in the world. This is for an IT Technician to start ASAP and will have excellent planning, communication, and organisational skills, within their Research & Development division.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented IT Technician with previous experience in Cybersecurity, virtual computer environments, software testing and programming to work with an innovative, market leading company on a major UK Public Safety campaign.

As an IT Technician joining the cyber security scouting and innovation team of, you will contribute to research projects like detection of evolving threats using OSINT techniques, and the prioritisation of threat / incident response. You would provide support for the R&D IT infrastructure, including maintaining the testbeds and demonstrators (both software and hardware) and their ongoing operation/availability for events.

This exciting role will be situated inside a highly skilled team, where collaboration across disciplines is essential to achieve the mutual goal of reducing cyber threat success. This will enable the post holder to further develop their own knowledge and skill set across a diverse range of topics, so the ideal candidate for this would be keen to support and work alongside highly specialised cyber security professionals

Roles & responsibilities:

Support the Cyber Innovation and Scouting Team in the success of all planned research projects in 2023. Assist Cybersecurity Researchers in the writing of all internal reports, external research publications and the creation of usable intervention.

Assist in the creation and debugging of Proof-of-Concept (POC) code (Python)

Create, maintain and test interconnected virtual computer environments from existing templates, and use as a platform for testing the POC ideas

Skills/Experience

Strong experience in in software testing and debugging, using Python, programming, and environment configuration.

Knowledge of the processes involved in hosting code in a Git environment

Comfortable working under direction and supervision from cyber security researchers, with the ability to follow instructions independently.

Ability to support the transport and set-up of equipment between sites (transport will be provided).

Desirable skills:

Experience in the use of virtual environments to host 'web services' hosted within docker

Basic experience in how websites and their backend databases work to enhance functionality

Interest in open-source intelligence gathering using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

Interest in cyber security risk qualification and prioritisation.

Knowledge/experience of the implementation of backup and recovery strategies for IT infrastructure of various operating systems (current and legacy)
