Overview of the IT Network Engineer Role:

An opportunity has arisen for a IT Network Engineer to work for Belcan International, supporting over 500 users in Europe and Asia to deliver growth and value to the Belcan brand. The role will be based in either the Belcan Derby or East Kilbride office and will report directly to the Head of IT Service Delivery.

This is a new hands-on role, fully involved throughout technical design into day-to-day delivery, and will be split 50/50 across Business as Usual (BAU) and Project / Enhancement work.

You will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the local and wide area networks to ensure maximum uptime for our users. This role will also include designing system configurations, documenting and managing the installation of new networks and maintaining and upgrading existing systems as necessary.

You will ensure that the services are licensed, robust, scalable, and continuously available. Due to the business being highly reliant on service availability, it is imperative that all Incidents and service requests are resolved / fulfilled / escalated promptly, adhering to stringent SLAs and KPIs.

About You:

You must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in managing networks for large scale enterprises in either an internal or outsourced environment; and will possess the following capabilities:

  • Great understanding of general networking principles, including VLANs, subnet design and management, L3 routing, switches, VPN.
  • Experience with creating, maintaining, and troubleshooting IPSec based VPN networks on Palo Alto firewall equipment.
  • Extensive experience with Dell / Cisco routers and switches, and Ubiquity APs in large WAN and LAN environments
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
  • Experience with Spanning Tree, VLANs, and ACLs
  • Good attitude to knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement of documentation.
  • Liaise with customer IT departments to facilitate the connection of new site-to-site VPN tunnels
  • Monitor security software to ensure systems are up-to-date and patched against vulnerabilities.
  • Identify and recommend areas of improvement on all systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially when communicating with internal customers
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient in handling multiple responsibilities and tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced and demanding environment
  • Teamwork and internal customer skills
  • Manage infrastructure for multiple sites through implementation and support for IT network solutions
  • Travelling to site to provide proactive and reactive IT Support when required
  • Ensure all SLA's are met and root cause analysis is performed to address underlying Infrastructure issues.
  • Act as a technical point of escalation and guidance for all aspects of the Belcan IT network infrastructure.
  • Accountable for all the company's services, you will be responsible for the availability, licensing, testing, and support of the Belcan network.
  • Keeping up to date with technology innovations that would further enhance the business and carrying out viability studies for their effectiveness to the business and present the results of your findings to the senior management team.
  • To work in partnership with the business to design, support and improve new and existing connectivity across the business.
  • Experienced at driving and managing 3rd party / supplier relationships, including holding delivery partners accountable to ensure that key timescales are adhered to.
  • Willing to undertake ad-hoc tasks as deemed suitable by the business or management.
  • Design and implementation of Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP).
  • Experience in planning / implementing migrations from layer 3 vpn to SD-WAN is desirable.
  • Knowledge of domain migrations with ability to set up cross domain access from day one is highly advantageous.

You will possess the following technical skills:

  • Networking - configure, install, maintain
  • DNS, DHCP, VLAN
