Fired Equipment Lead (12‑month Contract, Inside IR35)
Belcan Workforce Solutions is seeking an experienced Fired Equipment Lead to support a major international downstream refining and petrochemical development programme, based in Reading. This is a rare opportunity to contribute technical leadership to a large‑scale energy project involving advanced refinery upgrades and fully integrated petrochemical facilities.
As the Fired Equipment Lead, you will oversee all combustion‑related design activities across pre‑FEED and FEED phases, guiding contractors and licensors to ensure safe, efficient, and technically robust solutions. You'll provide expert input across fired heaters, boilers, flares, thermal oxidisers, and burner management systems while driving standards, specifications, and emissions strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical oversight of fired equipment design, safety philosophy, performance, and optimisation.
- Review thermal design, equipment ratings, and compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
- Support HAZID, HAZOP, SIL/LOPA and safety reviews relating to combustion equipment.
- Interface with process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and safety teams to ensure integrated engineering outcomes.
- Influence project standards, specifications, and value‑improvement initiatives.
Essential Experience:
- 15+ years' experience with fired equipment in refining or petrochemical facilities.
- Strong background in combustion engineering, emissions control, thermal design and safety systems.
- Experience with large onshore energy projects and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
Contract & Pay:
- 12‑month inside IR35 contract
- £43.17 - £58.46 PAYE
- £56.91 - £75.31 Umbrella
- Location: Reading, RG2 6GF
- Full time on site
