Belcan Workforce Solutions are currently looking for a Component Development Engineer

Within the Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD), the Component Engineering department is responsible for mechanical design and development of engines up to 7 litres, which are used in a range of machine platforms. The successful applicant will join Component Engineering and take responsibility for design and development activities of components and systems for our engine ranges, designed and manufactured by the IPSD team.

Each project provides the opportunity to work on the design and development of engines intended to meet the latest emissions legislation, with world-class levels of quality and reliability. You will be part of a small, friendly team working together to deliver programmes that are critical to the long-term success of a respected, global company.

Ideal candidates will have component development experience, knowledge of IC engines, and be able to plan and execute challenging tasks/projects with minimal supervision.

Candidates should be experienced and confident to perform the following:

  1. Assume component development responsibilities within a small, dedicated team to introduce key components onto our range of diesel engines.
  2. Develop and optimize the validation plan, gaining team and stakeholder approval. Drive it to completion through tests at the supplier and within our engine R&D centre.
  3. Investigate and resolve technical issues using 8D methodology (establish containment actions, diagnose root cause, develop permanent corrective actions).
  4. Plan and communicate progress to peers, stakeholders, and management.
  5. Collaborate closely with the design engineers to develop and refine the solution and support the release of parts onto bills of material in preparation for volume production.

Through this role, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to take part in, and have significant responsibility for, the end-to-end design/development process for engine components and systems. Our team has true product ownership and the opportunity to see their components and systems through to volume production.

  3. Initiating action
  4. Problem-solving and analysis
  5. Work standards

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Essential:

  1. Strong technical background: bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electronic, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering is preferred, though other qualifications/experience will be considered.
  2. Good understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals and engine/component design.
  3. Good understanding of manufacturing principles and processes.
  4. Self-motivation and an ability to manage and deliver complex projects to meet commitments.
  5. Effective communication skills and teamwork.
  6. Able to collaborate and interact with external suppliers to develop a design solution.

Desirable:

  1. Knowledge of engine systems, in particular the fuel system.
  2. Experience of leading and participating in FMEA.
  3. Engineering experience gained in the off-highway sector.
  4. Experience of using Siemens TeamCenter PLM software.
  5. Experience of developing new designs following APQP methodology.
