Mon - Fri / 08:00 - 17:00 / 40 hrs per week.

Role Overview
The Aircraft Mechanical Fitter plays a vital role in supporting the UK Military Flying Training System's rotary wing operations. Based at RAF Shawbury, this hands-on position involves maintaining and servicing the H135/H145 helicopter fleet to ensure optimal performance and safety. Though non-certifying, the role is essential to the daily functioning of flight operations and maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with aircraft movement, line maintenance, and base maintenance of the H135/H145 fleet
- Perform inspections and repairs under the direction of Shift Supervisors or Certifying Engineers
- Maintain high standards of workmanship to ensure safe aircraft operation
- Complete maintenance tasks on airframe structures, power plants, mechanical and electrical systems in line with OEM instructions
- Carry out off-aircraft component and composite work in workshops as needed
- Support hangar operations, including aircraft movement and general housekeeping
Required Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- Strong understanding of engine and airframe systems
- Familiarity with specialised test equipment for engine and airframe diagnostics
- Up-to-date knowledge of:
- Flight and airport operations
- Aircraft line maintenance
- Aircraft base maintenance
Desirable
- Awareness of UK Military Aviation and UK MFTS procedures
- Understanding of CAA Part 145 and Part M regulations
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Completed apprenticeship in Aircraft Maintenance or a related discipline
- Experience in base maintenance, flight operations, and line maintenance
Desirable
- Experience working with H135/H145 helicopters
- Exposure to Airbus Helicopters products
- Background in military aviation
Performance Expectations
- Maintain aircraft availability levels above 98% at Shawbury, including during deployments
